Goin Hoosier: How I spent my September Vacation/NoT!

I'm ba-a-ck!

Last week, we really landed in Indy. Wtf? Yes we've been here for two months, though a large part of September was spent on the west coast. Yes, moving, yes vacation in Oregon, yes finalizing our migration to the Midwest. Last week, our car arrived, we had it serviced at BMW here in Indy. Yes, they forgot to tighten the lug nuts on the left rear wheel after putting on new brakes (yes, they made good on it, picking up the car, sending the mechanic who screwed up and the shop foreman out to fix it and talk to me). In the end all is well, and we finished out our week with a new, local insurance agent. Too much drama.

A couple of items of note happened in September... Yes, you want to know what those are...
Well, for one, Michael Feinstein, Grammy nominated singer and pianist, has signed on to take the helm as Artistic Director at the Carmel, Indiana Regional Performing Arts Center. His salary is in the $500k range. The other event of note, and perhaps more important, is the press release of Lisa Arthur, the woman of my dreams who also happens to be my wife (convenient, isn't it?) in her new role as Chief Marketing Officer of Aprimo. Salary is undisclosed. Yes, Mr. Feinstein, I know that's the job you REALLY wanted, but you'll have to do with being the Carmel Regional Performing Arts Center Artistic Director. Sorry, dude!!

Another item of note, at least in our little world, is the family vacation we took in Oregon. Yes, there was a vacation involved. No, it wasn't the entire 2-1/2 weeks I was gone. We (Lisa, me, granma and Brandon) drove up from the SF Bay Area in the last west coast act of our 530i BMW. We had great time hanging out with our college student son Ethan and girlfriend Janelle, and their roommate, Grant. Sorry Grant, no pic for you! (Actually, that's "no pic OF you," but so what?) We went rafting (without Grant or Granma) in what was probably the smoothest river I've ever rafted. Beyond that we had a lot of great home cooked meals at the house we rented outside of Eugene. If you're going to Eugene, I highly recommend this place. The link above takes you to their VRBO page. All in all, it was a wonderful trip, lots of fun, great to see the family...Ethan and Janelle have a great house together and seem happy.

Last item of note for September... After the Oregon trip, the real fun began: moving all our stuff out of California. We arrived back in the bay on Sept 12th. On the 14th, the movers came and took everything away. It wasn't a hard day, physically, but emotionally draining. The next afternoon I drove to Monterey, California to visit my nephew, Abe. He's a good man going through a hard patch in life, making up for past mistakes. He's a survivor. He'll get there. And, his girlfriend is pregnant, so he's going to be a father, which will make me a Great Uncle, or some such thing. I can't figure out how that works: I wasn't such a good uncle to begin with, so how do I end up as a Great Uncle? Such is the absurdity of life.

So enough whining about my personal life. Forget about the old world. Back to the "New World," the business of...Goin Hoosier!
